He's the porn world's Everyman. Blessed with an enormous "talent" yet average looks, he's starred in more than 1,700 adult films, directed 250 of them, and over the last twenty years has become porn's biggest ambassador to the mainstream. He's appeared in 60 regular films, 14 music videos, and VH1's Surreal Life, starred in the critically acclaimed Porn star (a movie about his life), and in Being Ron Jeremy (a take off on Being John Malkovich), co-starring Andy Dick. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. . . . Ron Jeremy is a born storyteller (funny, considering he doesn't do a lot of talking in his films). He knows where all the bodies are buried, and in this outrageous autobiography he not only shows you the grave but also gives you the back story on the tombstone. Get ready for Ron Jeremy—a scandalously entertaining deep insider's view of the porn industry and its emergence into popular culture, and a delectable self-portrait of the amazingly endowed Everyman every man wanted to be.

Porn icon Ron Jeremy is known not only for his large appendage but his sense of humor. He has had one foot in the comedy world and another in the porn world since the 1970s. His autobiography is joyous reading, and I laughed outloud repeatedly. Jeremy spent much of the 1980s at the comedy clubs of Los Angeles and New York hobnobbing with the greats of comedy, including Rodney Dangerfield, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey and many more. His stories of the post-show late night insanity at all-night coffee shops is worth the price of this book alone.Jeremy devotes considerable space to venting his dismay at how often he's been cast in legitimate non-porn films only to have his scenes cut when studios realize a porn star is in their legit films. He has a right to be dismayed. More than once iconic film director John Frankenheimer cast Jeremy in his A-list Hollywood films only to have the studio cut him out. We must believe Jeremy's assertion he is a good actor because Frankenheimer was particular about his casting and Jeremy would never have been cast in a film unless he had the chops.Told with incredible humor and elan, Jeremy's story is a joy to read, and his candor is refreshing.

I'm not even sure why I bought this book in the first place, it was one of those curiosity-type buys. George RR Martin is slacking with the next GOT book so I'm just trying to find some new material until then! I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book though, it was a fun read, he apparently has a great sense of humor and not many people can laugh at themselves, but Ron Jeremy can and does in this book. I laughed out loud at a couple of his stories. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was all the photos of him with actors/actresses, it just seemed a bit schmoozy, but overall this was a fun book and worth reading. I recommended it to anyone that doesn't take life seriously and aren't easily offended. Ron sounds like a fun, good natured person, if he ever comes back around to promote his rum (which he did about a year ago at a local restaurant but I didn't go) I'll be there this time!

The writing itself is so pedestrian as to be laughable. Further laughs can be had as he tries to prove he is a serious actor who has had roles in major motion pictures. At best, after reading his words, he has had appearances in some movies - most of which are not major anything. He loves to drop names and pretend that he is special because of meeting "big" names. As for his profession as a porn actor, that's his business and the business of those who watch it or engage in it.I started reading the book as I would any other book, then I found myself skimming it, then I found myself skipping chapters until I reached the end. All in all, it's nonsense.

The general consensus in society is that casual sex leaves you empty inside and that fame is fleeting, and friendships with celebrities are shallow and meaningless relationships. Ron Jeremy seems to dispel these myths. He has slept with over 4000 women and seems completely fine with it. He is happy to be recognized and seems to make it work to his advantage financially and socially, he names dozens of celebrities that he has befriended and speaks of them with great fondness.Ron is either putting us on or his life is fantastic. He doesn’t seem to dislike anyone; not the police detectives who arrest him and more than once, not the actresses who spurn him and not the mainstream studios who have forced directors to cut him from their films. He doesn’t hold a grudge against any of them. I marveled how he just seems to exist in a state of happy-go-lucky. I was beginning to think that maybe Ron was a sociopath but then about two thirds into the book he gives step by step instructions on how to have anal sex without making a mess. Hilarious! It looks like Ron does care. The book doesn’t really go into any details about which porn star is nice to work with or who is the best at certain sexual talents. I found that odd. Also Ron never mentions the darker things in his life like having performed with at least three women who have committed suicide and many others that have died young. Yet he says he identifies with Vietnam Veterans but doesn’t memorialize any of his porn star veterans. He keeps the book light. He spends most of the time name dropping and saying he would rather be a mainstream actor. He gives the impression that porn is just his day job and doesn’t want to talk about work and mainly writes about the other things that go one when he isn’t doing porn. The funny thing is when he isn't doing porn his extra curricular activities involve sex. It was lacking in substance but still it interesting read.
